How often do I need to flip my mattress? This is a common question among mattress owners and a valid question.
Flipping a Mattress will help prolong the life of the Mattress and decrease the potential of the valleys that come with age. This is the argument of Mattress companies that still offer flippable mattresses, but does it really help to flip a Mattress?
Mattresses are becoming one sided for an expense reason, but I believe there is more to it than that. I can understand rotating a mattress from top to bottom because it will switch the side that your partner will sleep on. This is important, especially if your partner weighs more than you. But, think about flipping a mattress over. My thoughts is that the mattress is giving on one side and when you flip it over, you cause the other side to start giving and eventually causing this curvature in the mattress. Maybe this was a way for mattress companies to get us to come back more often, but I believe a flippable mattress is not a good thing.
It stands to reason that a one sided mattress with a good support layer at the bottom of the mattress would be best. I am not a mattress engineer, but this seems that it would make the mattress last longer and cause less dipping. What are your thoughts on flipping a mattress?
